Mondeo Nav turn by turn in IPC screen

Post by carneb »

I've recently purchased a 2016 MD/Mk5 Mondeo 2.0L ecoboost. I've updated to Sync 3.4 using Cyanlabs and now I'm trying to get the navigation turn by turn directions displaying on the IPC screen.

I've read many threads on doing this and what as-built data needs to be changed to make this work. I've changed all the settings I can find in the IPC and APIM as built using Forscan and still don't have the directions appearing on the IPC. I can't even get the 'Navigation' selection to appear in the Display menu on the IPC.

Most of the other threads seem to be talking about the cars with dual screens or the larger single digital screen IPC. My car has a single screen (see picture). Has anyone successfully got the nav directions working on this style of IPC?

See if anyone on this forum can help. There are several members that have extensive IPC experience.

You may need new firmware

Looking at the IPC settings for those related to navigation, It has Navigation Screen Repeater and Navigation/Compass already enabled. I also enabled Turn by Turn Navigation.

In the APIM it has Navigation - enabled common interface, Navigation Repeater Conformance - current, and Navigation Repeater Format - Motorolla.

The IPC also has Climate Screen Repeater and Entertainment Screen Repeater enabled and I don't see those on the IPC screen either so maybe this model of IPC just can't show anything other than the trip computer?

Yes I did try changing to Intel but it didn't make a difference.

I did use the 2.4.6 beta to look at the IPC firmware. Forscan tells me I already have the latest firmware - Strategy GS7T-14C026-AEC . I suppose I could update to 2018 firmware? Looking at the as built data for the 2018 version of my car the Strategy for that is JS7T-14026-AEB. Are these compatible?

The risk of using a non compatible firmware, calibration or strategy files is the bricking of the updated module, although Forscan dose not always have last updates for some car models, you can also use UCDS if you have the ability.

The IPC is robust and many have successfully experimented with flashing new firmware. Used IPCs are cheap in the US so bricking one is not a disaster. Your challenge will be finding the firmware files. Forscan will only retrieve the file it shows as the latest version. I had to buy a used IPC from the model year that had the firmware I wanted and extract it using Forscan. In the end the new firmware did not give me the features I wanted but it works without any problems.

Follow the firmware update instructions exactly and you will be successful.

I don't have UCDS and it seems its not available to purchase at the moment either.

I did have trouble downloading the files for the 2018 IPC as the Ford vbf download link doesnt work for me it gives an error saying I'm not logged in.

I have found a workaround though. I found the as built file that Forscan saved on my hard drive and edited that to include the files I needed instead of the standard ones. Then in Forscan firmware update under 'To program' I chose 'factory' and hit the download button and it happily downloaded the files I wanted.

Now I just need to work out if those files are compatible. As you said Don a replacement cluster is cheap ($100) but if I replace my cluster will it affect the PATS? Will I need a locksmith to reprogram my keys? There is no PATS update in Forscan for my car.
